FM Stereo
Convertion

These conversions are made to fit inside the original radio, so they look and feel correct when installed in the dash. We use your face, case, and tuner assembly. The original electronics are replaced with a new digital stereo receiver designed to work with the original mechanical tuner and controls. Due to the very small size, made possible by extensive use of surface mount technology, we can convert any analog radio, any year, any model, 6 or 12 volt.

This 1948-50 Ford Truck radio that has been converted to stereo. The appearance as viewed from the passenger compartment remains original, with all controls functioning as designed. Inside, the chassis which contained the tubes and transformers has been removed and replaced with a new, modern digital stereo receiver and 44 watt RMS amplifier. The original antenna connection and all "up front" controls are retained.

All original functions are fully operational, including Wonderbar, Town & Country, or other signal seeking tuners. Crystal controlled tuning eliminates drift. Switching between AM and FM bands is done by turning the radio off and then back on again when the radio did not originally have an AM/FM switch. The balance control is generally mounted in place of the original antenna trimmer on radios that did not originally have a balance control. Pushbuttons can be set for AM or FM stations using the same method that was used originally. All radios are equipped with RCA inputs and the necessary control lines to plug into the CD player.

In the radio shown above, a tiny LED has been embedded in the dial background that indicates status by changing colors for various conditions. AM is red, FM is green. It also functions as a tuning indicator, changing from dim to bright when a station of sufficient strength is tuned in. The LED also changes from green to yellow when the receiver locks on an FM stereo station.

The standard audio configuration for 12 volt systems is 2 speaker stereo BTL 44 watts total RMS output. This will allow placement of left and right channel full range speakers in the original front and rear speaker openings in most cars without modification. Other options include a 22 watt BTL single speaker system for situations where adding a second speaker is not desirable or practical, and a 24 watt single-ended 4 speaker system.

4 SPEAKER 88 WATT RMS OPTION

We can add a second pair of BTL audio drivers to your stereo conversion to provide a total output of 88 watts RMS (4×22 watts).

This option has the same specs as our 2 speaker BTL conversion with the addition of a front/rear speaker control and 2 more BTL outputs with a separate connector for the rear speakers. Requires a 15 Amp minimum accessory circuit with 14 Gauge or larger power feed. Not available for 6 volt systems.
